Wow! I've never ever seen a building made of volcanic rock, that is *really* cool!
And the dichotomy between these two photos is very entertaining :)

The volcanic rock looks like pumice that would crumble easily. Yet it seems like a very old building so it must be a sturdy rock. It's not a very attractive building material!

The volcanic rock is a neat building medium - much more stylish and rustic than concrete...the Palace in Wellington is beautiful, the brilliant white facade and red window frames have an almost art-deco elegance. It is a great building that stands the test of time...
